Great Train Robbery
An assignment from The Animation Collaborative, The Train Robbery assignment contains a certain amount of beats that have to occur in a proscribed order. Beyond those parameters, I was allowed a great deal of creative latitude. I thought it would be really fun to make the two train robbers a married couple that had lost their spark.

Indiana Jones-Rough Pass
This is the first pass of a few pages from an earlier draft of Indiana Jones & the Crystal Skull. Extremely rough, but I like the direction it's going.

Androcles & the Lion
This was an exercise minimal boardingÉthe self imposed parameters were to tell an Aesop's fable in 100 panels or less. It's a fantastic exercise because it forces the board artist to be extremely judicious in their shot choice as to what pushes the story forward. I am a fan of "no fat storytelling," and this was a really fun exercise for me. Also, I got to draw lots and lots of lions!

Karate Fly
I wanted to do something fun and original and struggled to think of an idea. One night as I was drifting off to sleep this sequence floated to my brain. I started giggling to myself which woke up my partner. I pitched her the story as well and was pleased to hear her laughing as well. The next day she had no recollection of the night's events so I pitched it one more time. As she laughed, this time, wide awake I knew I had a winner.

Gunshot! A Mostly True Story
This is a more or less true story from my life.

Trapped!
Another exercise with a self imposed constraint, I wanted to see if I could make a fun and dynamic scene with two characters literally standing around in a box.

Superman II: The Donner Cut
I always hated the way Lois Lane figured out Clark Kent was Superman in Superman II for a number of reasons. Many years later I read the original scene and knew I had to do it as a board exercise. (Geek note! It was this scene that the actresses auditioning for Lois Lane read. When you see Margot Kidder's audition you can immediately see why she got the part.)

Millers Crossing Redux
An alternate take on a pivotal scene from Miller's Crossing. Sure would have made for a different movie!

Lawrence of San Francisco
The assignment was a two parter:

1.`Lawrence of Arabia arrives in San Francisco'

2. `Keep it SHORT!'
