"Sunstone Illustrations" or "Bride & Groom"
I'm a regular contributer to Sunstone, usually in the capacity of cartoonist. It's a great gig and they give me a lot of latitude. I'll come up with ideas of my own and sometimes they'll feed me some of their own and it's been a lot of fun.
I've also done illustrations for them in the past but haven't for a while. It was delighted however yesterday to get an email from their new editor in chief asking if I could please rush through four illustrations for an article they are working on.
I'd been wanting to try more illustrations and push myself out of my comfort zone and so far I'm pretty happy with the results.
This one is my favorite so far:

"Naked Tuesday" or "Grumpy (Naked) Old Men"
I made it to figure drawing last night. I'm very rusty and I think it shows all over my drawings in general. When my figure drawing flows everything else seems to as well.

One of the biggest challenges for me was I am too used to models who are at the peak of perfection. I got very spoiled with the group I used to meet with when I lived in Salt Lake City. The gentleman last night resembled a white haired Walter Matthau.
I need to bone up (ha ha) on my anatomy. It's easy to draw a really fit model where you can see exactly what's going on with the structure. It's harder drawing someone who is a bit more flabby. You can't draw what's under the surface if you're not sure. You can't fake what you don't know.
I used my brush pen because I needed to commit to the drawing. I'm too rusty and I cant spend my time futzing around.
